An EMT is being remembered after a deadly encounter in the Bronx that resulted in her being run over by an ambulance.
Yadira Arroyo and her partner were responding to a call in the Bronx on Thursday night when they spotted a man joyriding on the back of the vehicle. Arroyo and her partner confronted the suspect, 25-year-old Jose Gonzalez, who then pushed past them and tried to steal the ambulance.
“He put it in reverse. He struck the one EMT, who was injured, and he ran over our other EMT and she was subsequently killed,” Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro said.
The 44-year-old Arroyo was pronounced dead at Jacobi Medical Center. She was a 14-year veteran and had five children.
