A major protest called “A Day Without A Woman” is taking place in New York City and around the country on Wednesday.
Women are encouraged to stay home from work or school to highlight the role they play in society. Organizers also want women to wear red and to avoid shopping. They hope it will raise awareness of issues such as equal pay.
A rally is planned for noon at Columbus Circle in New York City. That will be followed by a march from Washington Square Park to Wall Street at 4 p.m.
“I have tremendous respect for women and the many roles they serve that are vital to the fabric of our society and our economy,” President Trump said on Twitter. “On International Women’s Day, join me in honoring the critical role of women here in America & around the world.”
