Flights are grounded across the world due to a severe winter storm on the East Coast.
New York City and the rest of the Tri-state area is being hit by a major snow storm with blizzard-like conditions reported in some areas.
There has been a full ground stoppage at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Flight Aware reports that over 2,700 flights have been canceled worldwide because of Winter Storm Niko; about 900 local flights have been grounded due to the storm.
Schools in the city are closed Thursday with 6 to 10 inches of snow expected in Manhattan, over a foot is possible for Long Island.
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday for most of the tri-state area. Most of Long Island is under a Blizzard Warning.
The storm will wind down by this afternoon, but accumulation could make the evening commute could challenging. Officials say this will be a heavy, thick and wet snow, which is much more difficult to clear.
