The New York City Police Department is releasing more information about 20-year-old Chanel Lewis, a Brooklyn man accused of killing Karina Vetrano.
Vetrano was found dead in August 2015 after disappearing while jogging in Howard Beach. Lewis was arrested after providing police with a DNA sample that matched evidence recovered at the crime scene.
Before the murder, Lieutenant John Russo stopped Lewis for acting suspiciously. Russo remembered the incident and officers tracked down Lewis, who then confessed to the murder during questioning.
Lewis is charged with second-degree murder. He’s scheduled to be back in court on February 21.
