PS/IS 127 on Roosevelt Island released an EPA report that revealed elevated lead levels in 8 out of 100 samples collected at non-potable water areas of the school.
A Department of Education spokeswoman explained that none of the high lead samples were drawn from drinking fountains or water used for cooking.
The EPA regulations state that any water that contains lead contamination over 15 parts per billion must be investigated by NYC.
Department of Education spokesperson Toya Holness ensured parents that the water in the school building is safe and the school is simply following the standard protocol set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency.
