October 7th, 2025 may be called a bittersweet day throughout much of the world. Donald Trump’s negotiations have generated talk of a cease-fire with Hamas and the possible release of the hostages in Gaza, yet it is the commemoration of the second anniversary of the brutal attacks in Israel that are at the heart of the day. As the world remembers, what is the mood in the country that can’t ever forget? ABC News correspondent Jordana Miller appeared on 710 WOR’s Mendte in the Morning program to describe the mood in Jerusalem two years to the day after the attacks that killed over 1,200 people.
“People still feel like it was yesterday, even though it’s been two years,” Miller told host Larry Mendte. “I think that’s because it’s hard for a country to heel when there’s still ongoing wounds if you ill, including the hostages… and a war that we hope is coming to an end, but we’re not there yet. And so I think there’s a lot of pain today and a lot of people feel triggered- I do. I mean, I couldn’t sleep last night, and the day, the shock and fear of that day, I think, [resonates with] all Israelis, only more so two years later, when we’ve had a chance to look at the way it played out.”
Miller does concede there’s a long way to go, but at least the talks in Egypt represent light at the end of the tunnel: “There’s a lot of pain today, and a little bit of cautious optimism that maybe, with these talks going on in Egypt between the sides, maybe, maybe, this is the beginning of the end of the war, not tomorrow but maybe over the coming weeks, we’ll see some of those hostages, hopefully all of them come out.”
