How Does Vickie Paladino View The Race For Mayor Now That Labor Day Is Here

Election Day is now two months away, and that means the herd of candidates should start to thin out as November 4th draws closer. Independent candidate Jim Walden, who was a distant fifth, announced Wednesday that he is suspending his campaign; however, he is not one of the candidates whose withdrawal could sway the election. That means the voters still have to keep an eye on Andrew Cuomo, Eric Adams and Curtis Sliwa. Sliwa, currently polling in third, has long maintained the campaign work never truly begins until Labor Day, so what are his chances now that the holiday is over? New York City Councilwoman Vickie Paladino (R-19) is one person who hopes Sliwa’s theory is correct. She appeared on 710 WOR’s Mendte in the Morning program to discuss the Republican candidate’s chances.

Paladino discussed with host Larry Mendte why she believes Sliwa finally will get some momentum with voters: “I think we all know that Cuomo is not going anywhere, Adams is not going anywhere, and Curtis is having a surge that I don’t think really should be ignored anymore, and I’ll tell you why I think that. He spoke [Tuesday] night at a place in Queens called North Shore Towers. North Shore Towers populates thousands of people, and it’s blue-dog liberal Democrats, and he filled the auditorium last night. That speaks volumes. They rarely, if ever, have a Republican speak there. So, he got up on that stage and he stated exactly what his plans are, which was an excellent way to go… and the crowd loved it.”

Meanwhile, front-runner Zohran Mamdani tries to shore up his view at the front of the pack, while Cuomo tries to do something to gain on him. Paladino says let’s wait and see where it all leads. “I know what everybody says about Cuomo. I’m gonna still take that wait and see attitude… Let’s see how Cuomo does. Cuomo is still- I don’t care what the polls say- he’s lacking the zest and he’s lacking that push that he really needs to show up against this young person.”
