The battle for Texas redistricting is nearing its end as the vote for new congressional maps made it through the Texas House and heads to the Texas Senate. California has threatened to redraw its congressional maps in order to give Democrats seats that they are set to lose in the Texas redrawing but the whole process isn’t as foolproof as it seems. Rick Klein, ABC News Washington Bureau Chief, spoke with Mendte in the Morning about the ongoing battles and the risks of states redrawing their maps.
“It’s all a gamble,” Klein told guest host Ken Rosato. “If you’re in a very tight race for control of the House like we were last time it might be a gamble that’s worth it.”
Klein believes that one wrong calculation could have major effects on many elections: “Voters actually have to vote at the end of the day, and you can easily see a scenario where all of these efforts in a red state or a blue state actually end up backfiring on the Governor on the legislature and on the President.”
