Yesterday Donald Trump made an announcement that National Guard troops would be deployed on the streets of Washington D.C. which caused outrage and fear among some. The important question to ask is what it actually means with troops being mobilized and deployed. Jon Decker, WOR White House correspondent, spoke with Mendte in the Morning about what can be expected in Washington D.C.
“The Department of Justice now controls the Metropolitan Police Department,” Decker told host Larry Mendte. “We will see, we are told, within a number of days on the streets of Washington DC National Guard helping to augment the police force to keep the city safe.”
Decker explained why this happened and who will be in charge once the changes take effect: “The lead will be the Metropolitan force… but the President believes that crime has gotten so bad that this is necessary in the nation’s capital.”
