New York Mets fans went into the 2024 season with the assumption that it was going to be a rebuilding year but ultimately watched their team take the World Champion Dodgers to game 6 of the NLCS. The Mets front office followed up the unexpectedly successful season with giving Juan Soto the most expensive contract in MLB history. Tim Healey, NY Newsday Mets beat writer, spoke with Mendte in the Morning about the flashy signings and what the expectations are as the 2025 season gets closer.

“I think this is may be the most excited Mets fans have been for a season since maybe 2006,” Healey said to host Larry Mendte. “We’re talking just about 20 years, pretty much a generation almost, of Mets hype that has not reached this level.”

Healey believes that the higher expectations leave little room for failure: “The Mets have the second highest payroll in baseball…which leads into the expectations of a deep playoff run or failure for the Mets; really its World Series or bust.”
