Opening Arguments Begin In Daniel Penny Trial

A jury has been seated in the trial of Marine veteran Daniel Penny and opening arguments were scheduled to begin on Friday.

Penny is charged with manslaughter for the death of Jordan Neely on the subway last year. Penny placed Neely in a chokehold, with defense attorneys arguing that Neely was acting erratically and Penny feared for his safety and the safety of others. Prosecutors argue that Penny continued the chokehold long after Neely was a threat.

The jury is comprised of seven women and five men. The trial is expected to continue into December.
