Len Berman and Michael Riedel talked with I-Heart morning radio host Mark Starling in Asheville, NC. about the importance, WWNC-AM played in helping people after Hurricane Helene decimated the area.
Starling told the guys, "Situations like these show the power of AM radio. When TV couldn't do it, and streaming couldn't do it, radio was right there, ready to help, and it shows how imperative it is for radio to remain a massive medium in every market, specifically AM radio. We were pretty much the only lifeline people had to gather information. WOR morning show co-host Michael Riedel was in Asheville during the Hurricane, and he told Starling he and several other people would gather at a person's car at 4:00 pm and listen to WWNC to find out what was happening. Starling said we had people calling the station after the phones came back on who told us they rode the storm out in their cars because WWNC-AM was their only source of information.
