Len Berman and Michael Riedel asked long-time MLB writer Bill Madden for his thoughts on the death of the all-time hit leader Pete Rose.
Bill believes, like many other baseball fans, that Pete Rose belongs in the Baseball Hall of Fame. The Executive Board of the Hall of Fame took the voting rights of the baseball writers away for the Rose induction vote. When baseball commissioner Bart Giamatti put Rose on the permanently ineligible list for the gambling scandal, he never mentioned banning Rose from the Hall of Fame. Rose would have gone down as the most popular baseball player in the history of the game. Pete Rose not being in the Baseball Hall of Fame is an American tragedy.
