Ed Kranepool Of The Miracle Mets Dies

Ed Kranepool, an original 1962 Met and a member of the 1969 World Series championship team, has died at the age of 79.

Kranepool spent his entire 18-year career with the Mets, serving as their first baseman and making the All-Star team in 1965. As part of the '69 Miracle Mets team, Kranepool hit a homerun in Game 3 of the World Series against the Baltimore Orioles.

Kranepool hit .261 for his career and hit 118 home runs. He was inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame in 1990.

"We cherished the time we spent with Ed during Old Timers’ Day and in the years since. Hearing Mets stories and history from Ed was an absolute joy," owners Steve and Alex Cohen said in a statement.
