Cancer Vaccines In The Works Says NYC Doctor

Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning talked with Dr. Arthur Caplan, professor of Bioethics at NYU's Langone Medical Center, about cancer vaccinations coming down the line.

Caplan said, "There is one already, believe it or not, for melanoma, it's very long down the experimental trail, and other cancer vaccines are in the works. I've seen one for lung cancer that is in the works. Chemicals are injected into your body that go after cancer cells. The vaccine identifies the cancer cells because they grow faster than normal cells, so it attacks and tries to destroy them. Of course, you must be willing to take a vaccine for it to work. Dr. Caplan believes that, at some point, we will be able to get vaccinated against cancer.
