What Do People Think Of Trump Two Days After The Assassination Attempt?

There weren’t supposed to be many questions left unanswered about former President Donald Trump as the GOP convention kicked off Monday in Milwaukee, but Saturday’s assassination attempt changed that equation, leading people on both sides of the aisle wondering whether it’s time to ratchet down the campaign diatribes. For Trump supporters, however, the image of a bloodied candidate defiantly pumping his fist only reinforces their image that he is the man for the moment. WOR street reporter Natalie Migliore stood outside Trump Tower Monday morning and asked passersby for 710 WOR’s Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning program for their reaction to the weekend’s events.

Migliore found one woman who thought something was amiss with the nearly two full minutes that passed between when the would-be assassin was spotted and when the first shots rang out. “I think it was a set-up,” she told Berman and Riedel. “It literally doesn’t feel right, like, something is up with that. I can’t believe that he, the shooter, missed, the way that he missed, and the Secret Service wasn’t actually there right away to protect him. There’s something wrong with this, there really is something wrong with this.”

Overall, the tone Migliore heard from people was one of “let’s come together” in the wake of the shooting, such as this woman, who said, “We have to find a way to unify, or this country is going to go down to hell. Absolutely, it’s going to go to hell, because we need to come together. We need Republicans and Democrats to come together, share ideas, learn from another, compromise.”

But for one man, the sight of a bloodied, fist-pumping Trump is the lasting image of the day. “That was awesome. Got to show the people, don’t stay down. Get back up.”
