Improved DNA Testing Helps in Gilgo Beach Investigation

Len Berman and Michael Riedel talked with Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney about evidence still being found in the alleged Gilgo Beach Serial Killer case thanks to advances in DNA evidence.

Tierney explained, "The gathering of DNA has improved so greatly over the past 10-years that just a minuscule amount can definitively pin a suspect to a crime. In the past, DNA evidence gathered had to meet certain criteria to make it admissible in a court of law, there had to be a sufficient amount of DNA to do a complete workup, and the DNA couldn't be contaminated by its surroundings or deemed too old. But now, with today's forensic science improvements, DNA will play an even bigger role in crime solving."
