If you’ve listened to 710 WOR’s Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning program since day one in 2018, you probably recognize the name Alice Stockton Rossini. WOR’s battle-toughened street reporter has been doing “man on the street” interviews for the boys ever since; if you were lucky enough- though Alice might say “in the wrong place at the wrong time”- she may have even asked you a question about the latest headline or trend as you were racing to catch the early train to work.
Alice has announced that she’ll be retiring at the end of the year, which means Friday will be your final chance to hear her put her microphone in front of unsuspecting New Yorkers to get their opinions. She made the announcement with Len and Michael Tuesday morning in her typical dead-pan style, saying that after years of running around after us, she’ll be running around after her family. “I gotta go. I gotta go… I have to leave. I got one kid having a baby, I got another kid having a baby… my parents are in their 90’s… and I have a lot of things I want to do. I have a fitness business that I’ve had on the side for over 30 years. I train people in their homes; I teach fitness classes. I love it almost as much as I love being on the radio.”
In the meantime, there are lots of untold stories waiting to be heard in New York, and the latest is the saga of Tommy DeVito, the New Jersey kid who is suddenly 3-0 as the starting quarterback for the New York Giants. Here’s how only Alice describes DeVito’s home town of Cedar Grove, New Jersey: “It’s not far from Wayne. It’s not far from Verona… It’s west. It’s west on Route 4. Or Route 3. One of them… a little teeny-tiny town, and it’s very Italian. Oh my God, Italian delis all over the place.”
