Wolf to Rodgers: Cool Your Jets and Wait Until Next Year!

Aaron Rodgers has been tantalizing long-suffering Jets fans about a possible return from his Achilles tendon injury sometime in December. The four-time NFL MVP, whose Jets tenure went on hold after just four plays, has been throwing fifty-yard bombs on the sidelines and hinting he could return and save the team’s dwindling playoff hopes. This does not sit well with New York sports broadcasting legend Warner Wolf. Speaking on 710 WOR’s Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning program, Wolf feels the soon-to-be 40-year-old legend should stay out until he has fully recuperated from surgery.

“He’s talking about maybe coming back the last four games- why?” Wolf told Berman and Riedel. “Why would you do that and risk injury and then be out for the year. That makes no sense at all. And you know what? I’m tired of seeing him warm up and throw passes. He’s taking the spotlight off Zack Wilson. Leave Zack Wilson alone. Stay out of the game- go home!”

Wolf pulled no punches with New York’s other gridiron team. The Giants are now 2-8 on the heels of their second trouncing at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys outscored the Giants 89-17 in their two games this year. “Awful. Awful. I said the defensive backs featured a new pass defense. It was called none-on-one… I do have one question about the game, though. Giants are trailing 42-7 in the fourth quarter, fourth down and 15… and they kicked the field goal. I’m saying, why? Let (Tommy DeVito) had the shot to get the 15 yards!”

Wolf also took a moment to address the Mets hiring Carlos Mendoza away from the cross-town rival Yankees to be their skipper in 2024. “My concern is that, as the Yankee bench coach, was Mendoza influencing Aaron Boone to rely on the overrated pitch count and analytics and taking out the starting pitcher after five and six innings rather than what’s the score and how’s he doing. That’s my only concern about Mr. Mendoza.”
