Governor Hochul Wants To Suspend Right To Shelter Law

Governor Hochul is supporting a call by Mayor Adams to suspend New York's Right to Shelter law.

The law requires New York to provide a bed to everyone who wants one. But Hochul says the measure wasn't designed for a migrant crisis like the one New York City is currently experiencing.

"We cannot let there be an open invitation to the entire world to come to New York because that is not sustainable," Governor Hochul said.

She said the migrants are being told they should go to New York City because they will be provided with free shelter.
