Len Berman and Michael Riedel talked with award-winning sportswriter Christine Brennan about reports that claim 1984 Olympic Gold Medalist Mary Lou Retton has been in the ICU with a rare strain of pneumonia. Brennan told the guys Retton cannot breathe on her own and has been on a ventilator for over a week. Retton won the individual all-around gold medal in the 1984 games and is beloved because she looked like the quintessential American girl. She pounded down the vault runway with a smile, while competitors like Nada Comanche and Olga Corbet looked ethereal and wispy thin. Retton shot to stardom after the 84 Olympic games and is known as America's Sweetheart. Retton is 55 years old.
