Target has decided to shutter a store that opened to great fanfare in East Harlem in 2010. The company is closing nine locations nationwide on October 21st; the Minneapolis-based shopping giant is citing rising crime and the safety of its employees and shoppers as reasons for the closures. Former Nassau County Executive Laura Curran is among the people saddened by the move. She appeared on 710 WOR’s Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning program to offer her theory on why the closures shouldn’t even have been necessary.
“Here, you have tax dollars coming into the community, jobs, a service and stuff that people want, that people need,” Curran rationalized with Berman and Riedel. “But the far-left naïve policies of coddling criminals are causing the shutdowns, which is going to hurt the community even more. So, I’m hoping that my friends on the far left will kind of look at this… and think, hmm, maybe we’ve been a little naïve. Maybe we need to think a little more realistically about how we run things.”
Curran also voiced her indifference toward a Biden-Trump rematch in 2024. Rather, she envisions a Nikki Haley-Gretchen Whitmore showdown as much more palatable to American voters. “I think a lot of people would wake up out of their apathy… and actually pay attention, because these are two tough, smart -- I’m sorry to say, but also attractive -- women who have run states. They have been executives, chief executives in government, and they both know how to win… I’d love to see that, and I think that would get a lot of people excited again. Now, everyone just kind of wants to hibernate until this is over.”
