Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy launched an impeachment inquiry Tuesday afternoon against President Joe Biden. However, McCarthy may have jumped the gun under pressure from hardline GOP members, as it appears he may not have the votes necessary to impeach the embattled president. According to National Review Editor-in-Chief Rich Lowry, McCarthy should keep investigating and digging up proof that the Bidens did something wrong. Speaking on 710 WOR’s Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning program, Lowry said that’s as simple as following the money.
“There’s no reason to hide all the money,” Lowry told Berman and Riedel. “You only hide the money when you know there’s something wrong with how you’re getting the money, and that’s what they did, and it’s another thing we’ve learned because of the Republican investigation. So, where I am on this is, keep investigating, keep moving the ball. Maybe you find things that truly are high crimes and misdemeanors, and you need to impeach the guy, but we’re not there yet, but they’re already down that path.”
Without the votes, however, Lowry thinks the impeachment process is bound to go in circles. “I’m not sure how much impeachment is going to help, but what happens is, once you’ve opened an inquiry, you can’t shut it down and say, ‘Oh, we didn’t find anything new’, or ‘Oh, it doesn’t rise to the level of impeachment’, because that will play as a vindication for Biden, so I think we’re just on the inevitable path of Biden being impeached in the House and then, of course, acquitted in the Senate.”
Instead, Lowry still feels that the migrant crisis will be Biden’s eventual downfall, as he compared Biden’s migrant policy with Jimmy Carter’s in 1980. “The Mariel boatlift was 150,000 or so, but it created the sense that Jimmy Carter wasn’t in control of events… But the big difference is that Fidel Castro wanted to kinda screw the United States… by sending all these people all in a rush, and this time around, it’s Joe Biden who’s basically doing the same thing.”
