Ahead of the expiration of Title 42, Mayor Eric Adams is beginning to send migrants in the city to neighboring counties.
He’s starting by putting some of them on a bus to Orange County, despite the objections of County Executive Steve Neuhaus. He has declared a state of emergency.
"I get where Mayor Adams is coming from. He's got 60,000 refugees to try to figure out what to do with, but there's no leadership on the federal level so it's just a complete mess on all levels," Neuhaus told WOR's "Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning."
Neuhaus said he first heard about the mayor's idea on Friday and told him it's not a good idea. He said he doesn't know anything about the migrants the county will be receiving.
Adams also planned to send migrants to Rockland County. However, that plan is on hold after a state judge issued a temporary restraining order against using the Armoni Inn in Orangetown as a shelter.
The COVID-era policy known as Title 42 will expire on Thursday. Officials expect that will lead to a surge of migrants crossing the southern border.
