Will Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers be coming to the Jets for the 2023 football season? Former New York Daily News NFL columnist Gary Myers thinks the hurdles to make the deal happen can be cleared. Speaking on 710 WOR’s Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning program, Myers said, “I think it will happen; I can’t say tomorrow or next week, but I think it’ll happen in time for Rodgers to be here for the off-season program.”
Myers stressed time as the key incentive on both sides to get the deal done. “The Jets are a win-now team, and Aaron Rodgers is a win-now guy, so I do think it’s a terrific match for a year or two.”
The deal does create one major concern for some Jets fans-- will Rodgers be wearing Joe Namath’s legendary number 12? Broadway Joe led the franchise to its only Super Bowl title in 1969, and the Jets retired the Hall of Famer’s number in 1985. Rodgers has also become a Super Bowl-winning star wearing number 12, and Namath has said he’s open to lending the number to Rodgers if he comes to the Meadowlands.
Myers falls into the “pick another number” crowd. “I hope that Aaron Rodgers has a sense of history and what number 12 means to the Jets,” he opined with Berman and Riedel, “because number 12 is an iconic number in Jets history, and I think it should stay retired.”
