NYPD Steps Up Patrols At Schools After Three Shootings

New York City police have increased their presence in Upper Manhattan on Wednesday, following three shootings that appear to be connected.

A 17-year-old student was shot in the stomach and injured on Tuesday afternoon outside Martin Luther King High School on the Upper West Side. A second shooting injured a 16-year-old and 27-year-old near the Harlem Renaissance School. A third shooting in Harlem didn’t injure anyone, but all of the incidents came within a five hour span.

“Right now we are proceeding like they are all connected. Why do I say that? The proximity, the geography, around schools, the age of our victims,” Chief of Patrol John Chell said.

A 19-year-old was taken into custody for the first shooting. There’s no word on any suspects for the second and third shootings.
