Two firefighters were hurt when they fell through the second floor of a Brooklyn home during a house fire early Wednesday. A resident of the home was hospitalized in critical condition.

One of the two firefighters suffered burns after being briefly pinned on the first floor. He was treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The other firefighter was not seriously hurt.

The FDNY received called about the East Ninth Street house fire at around 4:15 a.m. Wednesday. Flames engulfed both the first and second floors of the home. The fire spread to two neighboring buildings.

A resident who lives in the building where the fire broke out was taken to a hospital in critical condition after being pulled from the basement in cardiac arrest. Four firefighters in total were injured during the response to the blaze.

Neighbors say the resident lived alone.

The fire was declared under control within about two hours, according to the FDNY. It's cause remains under investigation.
