NY Woman Travels 1,000 Miles To Reunite With Dog Missing Five Years

A New York woman travels over 1-thousand miles to reunite with her dog that went missing five years ago. In 2016, Jen Costa was in the hospital undergoing major surgery and when she returned home, she was glad to have her two dogs, Bruno and Azzurra Diamante, there to comfort her. But within a few weeks, Azzurra, an English Bulldog, went missing. She searched for her for months, but never found her.

Costa was already in a low place in her life, and losing her beloved dog didn’t help. "It's just made it a lot harder for me. I was really depressed. I didn't care what happened to me, you know, I wasn't as positive right after the surgery,” she says. “It took me a while to get here mentally, but it was just a hard time." As the years passed, Costa assumed she’d never see Azzurra again, until last week when she received an unexpected email saying her dog had been found — in Tennessee. "I was sitting in my barbershop chair getting a haircut, and I saw an email and ... I just started crying,” she recalls. “He had to stop and hand me a tissue; he had to wait to cut my hair."

As soon as she heard Azzurra had been found, Costa loaded up her car and drove 16-hours from New York to Henderson, Tennessee, to pick her up. Now the two are back together after five years apart. When asked what she and Azzurra are going to do first, Costa replies, "I'm going to take her to get a bath and then I'm going to take her to dinner."
