As a nor'easter dumps several inches of rain on the Tri-State area Tuesday, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) is tracking another possibly severe storm that appears bound for the northeast this week.
A low pressure system with gale-force winds currently off the coast of North Carolina is expected to creep into the northeast over the next few days.
There's a chance that by late-Tuesday, part of the system could merge with the nor'easter and turn into a tropical storm called Wanda. That would aggravate flood risk for thousands throughout the already drenched region, absorbing about 4 inches of rain.
Flash flood watches remained in effect for New York City and New Jersey on Tuesday.
The NHC said late-Monday night that the system has a 20 percent chance of forming within the next 48 hours and a 50 percent chance of forming within the next five days.
The wet weather should dry up by Halloween, however, with Storm Team 4 predicting partly sunny skies and highs in the 60s for the holiday on Sunday.
