For the second consecutive year, Nassau County was named the safest community in America, according to US News and World Report, and Nassau County Executive Laura Curran says the "wonderful law enforcement agencies" are a leading reason why.
Speaking on “Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning,” Curran said, "We are not de-funding the police in Nassau County; we invest in smart, intelligence-led, community-based policing." Curran pointed to Police Athletic League programs and community input as key elements that build the bonds that made Nassau number one. "It's the trust (between law enforcement and the communities) that's the bedrock of our success here," she told Berman and Riedel.
Nassau wasn't the only Tri-state area community to finish high on the list; Rockland County was ranked number two, and Westchester was number four, while Bergen County in New Jersey came in at number eight.
Curran discussed how Nassau leads New York State's counties in Covid-19 vaccination rate and is #2 nationwide among large counties. She also touched upon the "crisp, professional style" of new governor Kathy Hochul, trends in outdoor dining, and the rebound of LIRR ridership.
