Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS!

Well it actually isn't a pineapple, it's an underwater mountain in the Atlantic Ocean! A 'real-life' SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star were spotted by NOAA scientists a mile deep in the Atlantic Ocean. On an expedition Tuesday, July 27th, the marine scientists remotely operated vehicles to photograph the deep sea. While on this expedition they spotted a sea sponge and sea star sitting together. The resemblance to the cartoon characters is uncanny!

The marine biologist posted the photo to Twitter writing: "*laugh* I normally avoid these refs..but WOW. REAL LIFE Sponge bob and Patrick! #Okeanos Retreiver seamount 1885 m." He later tells Insider via email, "I thought it would be funny to make the comparison, which for once was actually kind of comparable to the iconic images/colors of the cartoon characters. As a biologist who specializes in sea stars, most depictions of Patrick and SpongeBob are incorrect."

As for getting a photo of the yellow sponge, Mah says that belongs to the genus Hertwigia. The scientist was surprised by the bright yellow color. A color unusual that deep in the sea. This star's color "was a bright pink that strongly evoked Patrick," Mah said.
