Couple Charged With Manslaughter After Gender Reveal Sparked Wildfire

A California couple is facing involuntary manslaughter charges for accidentally sparking a massive wildfire during a gender reveal party last year.

On September 5th The El Dorado Fire erupted when a couple and their children held a gender reveal at the El Dorado Ranch Park in Yucaipa, California. The device they made to reveal the gender was set off in a field and caused a fire to develop on the dry grass. The fire would go on to burn more than 36 square miles and destroy five homes and 15 buildings, according to ABC News. The flames eventually killing 39-year-old firefighter Charles Morton. The fire also injured 13 other people and forced hundreds of people to evacuate their homes.

The couple, Refugio Jimenez Jr. and Angela Jimenez, are facing up to 20 years behind bars. They were released on their own recognizance with a September 15th court date.
