Runner Sets Record For Lapping Central Park

In New York City, the running community is extremely familiar with what’s called the “Central Park Loop Challenge.” The challenge says runners must run as many laps around the park’s track, 6.1 miles, as they can between the park’s open hours of 6:05 am through 12:55 am. The previous record of 11 laps, or 67.1 miles, was completed in 14 hours. That record has just been shattered, however, by “ultrarunner” Robbie Belanger. In just over 18 hours and 7 minutes, he was able to complete 16 loops, which would be 100 miles, with an average per-mile pace of 10:59. In addition to breaking the previous record by over 30 miles, Belanger was also about to break his own personal record for a 100-mile run.
