A suspect is in custody following a four-hour manhunt Tuesday in connection to a fatal shooting at a Long Island grocery store late Tuesday morning.
Gabriel DeWitt Wilson, 30, was taken into custody at around 3 p.m., according to Nassau County police.
One person is dead and two more people were wounded in the shooting. The wounded victims were said to be conscious and alert and assisting law enforcement from a local hospital.
Wilson is the man police say they "believe" to be responsible for the gunfire that erupted at the West Hempstead Stop & Shop on Cherry Valley Avenue at around 11:20 a.m. Tuesday.
Authorities identified Wilson publicly early Tuesday afternoon, describing him as a person of interest, NBC 4 New York reported.
The suspect in the shooting was said to be wearing all black when he walked into the office area of the Stop & Shop late Tuesday and opened fire on employees there with a small handgun.
He then reportedly fled the scene, possibly on a bus, heading westbound on Hempstead Turnpike.
News 4 reported that both a Stop & Shop employee and a family member of Wilson said he worked at the West Hempstead store. Investigators confirmed Wilson had employment ties to Stop & Shop but would not say where he worked.
Police would not speculate on a potential motive.
It wasn't immediately clear whether the victims were targeted specifically.
Video from the scene showed at least a dozen ambulances and police vehicles gathered outside the grocery store after the gunfire.
The West Hempstead School District reported that it was under "lock out" and urged parents and guardians of students not to come to the building.
