New York City's St. James Theater has opened its doors for at least one night.
It's the first Broadway theater to reopen since the pandemic shut down venues last year. Three-time Tony Award-winning actor Nathan Lane and Tony-winning choreographer Savion Glover performed a special show for about 150 frontline workers at the Actors Fund and Broadway Cares/Equity Fight AIDS Saturday afternoon.
Both performers were given a standing ovation and delivered encores. The state has given theaters approval to reopen, but restrictions on crowd size have made it difficult for them to do so. Broadway will re-open fully in the fall.
