You can get rich selling your old collector trading cards!
If you collect trading cards, you might be sitting on a fortune and not know it! Collector, Dani Sanchez, has been collecting cards for about 15 years and now considers it a career. Sanchez says that trading cards have had an increase in value due to the pandemic. The cards with the most fortune are from the 1990s and early 2000s. She says a "sealed box of Pokémon cards from early 2000s or late 90s retailed at around $100. That same box would cost $20,000, $30,000 or even $50,000 today. It's insane".
"It's hard to put a value on it... but I would say my collection is worth around a quarter of a million dollars," Sanchez says according to Yahoo news. Although Sanchez sites the coronavirus as a reason for the increase in trading card values, she also says celebrities getting involved has something to do with it.
"Celebrities [have been] getting involved in it. Logic bought a Pokémon card, Logan Paul got in, Shawn Mendes, Steve Aoki. But there's another side: the financial angle. There's a whole group of people out there pushing the market up in the hope of making a profit later."
eBay says that the sale of Pokémon cards have gone up 574% between 2019 and 2020 in the United States and football cards grew 1,586%.
