Yankees' Zack Britton Out 3-4 Months After Elbow Surgery

Zack Britton already got off to a rough start in 2021 after a bout with COVID-19 in January which saw him lose what he called "a good amount of weight". Well now after the 33-year-old has recently complained of soreness in his left elbow following a bullpen session, an MRI showed that he requires arthroscopic surgery to remove a bone chip in his throwing shoulder. The operation is expected to occur within the next several days.

This is why the Yankees are shutting Britton down for at least six weeks meaning that the southpaw may miss three-to-four months of action.

And that is a huge loss for the Bronx Bombers considering Britton notched a 1.89 ERA with eight saves, 16 strikeouts, and a 1-2 record over 19.0 innings of work in his 20 appearances during the pandemic-shortened 2020 regular season.

Britton meanwhile tweeted his appreciation of fan support he’ll “be back as soon as I can.”
