Request For Tax Break Leads To NY Pot Operation Discovery

Obviously, everyone is interested in tax breaks, but you shouldn’t put yourself in legal jeopardy to get them. Weiming Liu has been accused of running a “large-scale marijuana operation” on a farm in Chesterfield, New York. It all started when Liu’s landlord put in a request for a “property-tax reduction” under New York’s Farmland Assessment Act. At first, the request was rejected. However, once the unnamed landlord appealed the decision, a “more detailed on-site inspection led to the discovery” of the weed operation. We’re talking 500 mature plants with a street value estimated at $750K…plus “1,000 seedlings aided by lighting & heating system to promote faster growth.” Liu was arrested during a traffic stop, and the landlord hasn’t been charged.
