The Family of a wealthy contemporary art dealer in New York City is outraged after learning that Andre Zarre changed his will just nine days before he died and left his multi-million dollar fortune to a Queens deli worker who became his companion and caretaker in his final months.
Andre Zarre, who died in July at the age of 78, was one of New York City's top contemporary art dealers and his assets are believed to be worth millions of dollars. He also was not married and did not have any children.
But he did have a close friend named Jose Yeje, who worked the counter at a local deli in the city in which Zarre frequented. They reportedly met back in 2016 and as Zarre's health began to deteriorate earlier this year, Yeje allegedly became the art dealer's 'caretaker'. He also was the sole beneficiary of his multi-million dollar estate.
Zarre's cousins and other family members say they are considering legal action. They believe Zarre has a lot more money in other accounts, as well as an art collection in storage that could fetch into the millions.
