No election season is complete without all the candidates involved saying something they’ll regret later. Today, Joe Biden is that candidate and he’s seeking to clarify remarks he made in an interview at a conference of Black and Latino journalists.
In it, Biden was asked whether he would extend Temporary Protective Status (TPS) for immigrants seeking asylum from Latin American countries. “Unlike the African-American community, with notable exceptions,” he noted. “The Latino community is an incredibly diverse community with incredibly different attitudes about different things.”
And while the campaign says it’s clear Mr. Biden was talking about political opinions, not a judgment on cultural diversity, a transcript shows he repackaged the same position a few minutes later. Either way, he’s apologizing, bigtime.
