A baby girl who was born in a train station was unresponsive, but a New Jersey police officer saved her life. Officer Bryan Richards with the New Jersey Transit Police Department responded to a “medical event” call and rushed to a women’s bathroom at Newark Penn Station. He found the newborn cradled in her mom’s arms, not breathing and grayish in color.
Richards took the baby girl and started chest compressions, but when he realized her “dire need” for immediate medical care, he and another officer, Alberto Nunes, rushed her to the hospital in their police cruiser. Richards continued chest compressions and just before they arrived, she started breathing. The police department reports the newborn is now “doing well.”
