NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea says an anti-police sentiment in New York City is fueling attacks on police officers.
“We have people across New York City, throwing bricks at police officers. We have people filling up water bottles with cement and hurling them at police officers,” Shea said.
He said videos purporting to show aggression by police is often taken out of context. Shea said officers who have acted badly will be disciplined.
But, Shea said elected officials must stop their public criticism of police.
“Let's be a little mature, and a little responsible and before you start commenting on a six second video, do a little homework and get the facts,” Shea said.
