A Connecticut woman who was born the same year as the Spanish Flu has been released from the hospital after recovering from COVID-19.
Evelyn Fiore, 102, was released from Stamford Hospital on Monday after spending a week there, NBC New York confirmed.
Fiore was born the year of the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic, which killed an estimated 500 million people worldwide. She also lived through the Great Depression and World Wars I and II.
She was defiant throughout her illness, despite the grim diagnosis.
"She's not ready to go yet," her son Nick Fiore told CT insider. "Intellectually she knows she can't live forever, but she is convinced that the end is going to be on her terms."
Evelyn had been living at a senior housing facility in Greenwich, CT, when she tested positive for the novel coronavirus. She pushed through the infection despite fatigue and severe body aches.
As of Tuesday, Connecticut had reported 29,973 confirmed coronavirus cases and 2,556 deaths due to COVID-19.
