When New Jersey restaurants were ordered to close their dining rooms, the owner of Federico’s Pizza & Restaurant went straight to the bank. Bryan Morin took out a $50-thousand loan to make sure he can keep paying his workers during this time of social distancing.
He promised his 20 employees that no matter what happens during the next two months, they’ll still get a paycheck. The restaurant in Belmar is still open for pick-up and delivery and Morin says he’s not worried about shutting down, he just hopes the summer brings more tourists to the area.
"My father told us a long time ago: You've got to take care of your employees first, because without those employees, you don't have a business at all," Morin explains. “I definitely owe them a debt -- even if it means I might go into debt.”
