Remember last week when I gave you Geno’s Take on Kyrie Irving? I said I can’t see it getting any better with Irving, after he re-aggravated his shoulder injury, and that they should just keep him off the floor as much as possible and focus on 2020-21 with a healthy KD Kyrie combo?
Well, it doesn’t matter if you remember because it sure seems like the Nets thought the same thing, after the team announced that Kyrie will have arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder and miss the rest of the season.
The Nets made the announcement last night before the Philadelphia 76ers beat them 112-104 in OT in their first game after the All-Star break.
Coach Kenny Atkinson said the point guard was still having trouble with the shoulder that sidelined him for 26 games earlier this season.
"Some days it was okay and other days it bothered him," Atkinson said. "Obviously, it is difficult to perform under those circumstances."
When Irving initially returned from his shoulder injury, he received a cortisone injection rather than undergo surgery. But this time he will have the procedure. Brooklyn Nets GM Sean Marks says the team is thinking long-term with Irving’s health.
As opposed to this past offseason when they signed Irving and Kevin Durant for $69-million total and got just 20 games played in return.
