De Blasio: Sergeant Union’s Comments “So Inappropriate”

Mayor Bill de Blasio is criticizing the Sergeants Benevolent Association, after the police union declared war on him.

"I have to say it is just so inappropriate. It's kind of hard to put into words what it says about things that are going wrong in our public discourse. It's absolutely inappropriate. I was disgusted by it,” de Blasio said.

The SBA blamed the mayor after two officers were shot in separate attacks in the Bronx over the weekend.

“Mayor DeBlasio, the members of the NYPD are declaring war on you! We do not respect you, DO NOT visit us in hospitals,” the union tweeted.

“It's sad when someone feels they can be openly divisive and get away with it. I don't think he should. I think there should be consequences for that kind of speech. I think it's destructive,” de Blasio said.

Suspect Robert Williams was arraigned on attempted murder and other charges on Monday. Both officers have been released from the hospital.
