A water main break caused flooding on the Upper West Side of Manhattan near Lincoln Center and delayed subway service during Monday morning's commuting hours.
FDNY responded to the flooding at around 5 a.m. Monday near Broadway and West 62nd Street. Water gushing from the broken line, spread for several blocks and was several inches deep in some locations.
The break disrupted subway service on the 1, 2 and 3 subway lines and prompted the MTA to suspend service between 42nd Street and 96th Street stations. Some bus routes were also detoured, reports the NY Times.
Video from early Monday shows the brown water blanketing entire streets and sidewalks near Lincoln Center.
By late Monday morning it was still unclear how long it would take the affected streets to be clears or the MTA to get back on schedule. Massive water flow can disrupt the MTA's pump systems, the Times notes.
Officials say the water was up to the train tracks in some locations.
As of 8 a.m., crews had discovered the source of the leak, shut off water and were working to fix the break.
