As Harvey Weinstein sat in a New York City courtroom yesterday, his legal issues were growing three-thousand miles away in Los Angeles. Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey [[LAY-cee]] has confirmed her office is moving forward with at least two more charges of sexual assault.
Lacey says the disgraced movie mogul raped one woman and sexually assaulted a second woman in 2013 on subsequent days – just before the Oscars. If convicted, he faces 28 years in prison. But that’s not all – Lacey says her office is continuing to investigate three other cases.
"We believe the evidence will show that the defendant used his power and influence to gain access to his victims,” Lacey said at a press conference. “And then committed violent crimes against them." Weinstein has denied all accusations of nonconsensual sexual contact.
