People may want to wear a hard hat when walking along the streets of New York City these days.
Officials are cracking down on debris that seems to fall off of buildings and landing on people. New York City says it will double the number of dedicated facade inspectors, and increase the frequency of inspections, after the recent death of a prominent architect killed by falling debris from a building. A safety sweep following the death led to serious violations being issued against 220 buildings around the city.
Reports of falling debris seem to be a regular occurrence around the city. Officials are looking to curb this sooner rather than later.
