A 60-year-old woman was killed in Midtown Manhattan today when a piece of a building fell off and crushed her on the sidewalk.
According to an article published in the New York Post, the unidentified victim was walking down Seventh Avenue, near 49th Street when a piece of the building's façade ripped loose and struck the woman.
City building inspectors cited the property last April stating, "Failure to maintain exterior building façade and appurtenances." The inspector's report also warned that "damaged terra cotta at areas above the 15th floor in several locations pose a falling hazard for pedestrians.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
